In short
Equity mutual funds attracted net inflows of ₹29,328.62 crore in August 2026, around 19% higher than July, according to AMFI data released on 10 September. Total mutual fund industry assets under management reached ₹87.08 lakh crore at the end of August.
What happened?
The Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) released industry data for August 2026 on 10 September. The data showed higher net inflows into equity mutual fund schemes compared with the previous month.
Net inflows represent the amount invested after accounting for redemptions during the reporting period. They are different from returns generated by the market or by individual mutual fund schemes.
The industry’s AUM reflects the total value of assets managed by mutual funds. This figure can change because of investor contributions, withdrawals, and movements in the value of underlying investments.
Key highlights
- Equity scheme net inflows: ₹29,328.62 crore in August 2026.
- Month-on-month movement: Approximately 19% higher than July.
- Total industry AUM: ₹87.08 lakh crore at the end of August.
- Data source: Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI).
What does this mean for mutual fund investors?
Higher net inflows show that investors added more money to equity mutual fund schemes than they withdrew during the month. However, one month’s data cannot establish whether the market will rise or fall in the future.
Investors should select mutual funds according to their financial goals, investment horizon, and ability to tolerate market volatility. A rise in industry inflows is not, by itself, a reason to invest in a particular fund.
Those investing through systematic investment plans (SIPs) should review their contributions in line with their financial goals rather than trying to predict short-term market movements.
Who should pay attention?
- Existing equity mutual fund investors
- People investing through SIPs
- First-time mutual fund investors
- Financial planners and mutual fund distributors
